Protected HealthInformation (PHI) or Personal Health Information (PHI) are protected personal health records of patients created in the specified PHI format. It includes past medical conditions, laboratory findings, insurance information, mental health conditions, demographic classification, and various other information.
PHI information is personal and is collected by physicians and medical professionals and is required for their diagnoses. PHI data is shared with other medical organizations. PHI data reveals the patient's medical history since birth, including all illnesses, surgeries, conditions, treatments and outcomes, and including physical development.
PHI data is collected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), is subject to U.S. law, and is also available in electronic form as Electronic Protected Health Information( ePHI). In anonymized form, the data are also made available for scientific research and health management.
