program evaluation and review technique (PM) (PERT)

Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is an event-oriented network technique used in project management, hence the name Event Node Network (EKN). PERT is used to determine the sequence of events before or after events.

The event-oriented PERT network planning technique can be used to plan and organize project tasks. DAs technique is used to evaluate and monitor project programs and estimate project duration.

Like the other network planning techniques, PERT uses simple graphical symbols to clearly represent the functional sequences. Dependencies are represented by arrows, events are the nodes represented as circles and connected by vectors. Events are connected to each other by happenings. In the graphical representation, the individual tasks of a project can be broken down and displayed over the time axis.

PERT analysis can be used when there is a high degree of uncertainty regarding the time estimate for individual activities. PERT uses the critical path method( CPM) for the weighted estimation of the average project duration.
