One task of color management systems is color matching between different displays, projectors and printers. For this matching, the International Color Consortium( ICC) has defined a vendor-neutral platform, the Profile Connection Space( PCS).
The PCS platform forms the reference color space and the interface between the interconnected devices. In this color space, the color spaces and the color models of the different devices are transformed and encoded for adaptation to the different color spaces. The coding is done according to the CIE color space.
The PCS platform sits between the peripherals and matches the color models because displays use the RGB color model while printers use the CMYK color model. It also matches color spaces that depend on the color model, devices and manufacturers.
