power-on reset (microcontroller) (PoR)

Power-On Reset (PoR) is an electronic control of the supply voltage of microprocessors. The PR circuit ensures that the same supply voltage is applied to the microprocessors each time they are switched on.

Power-On-Reset circuits are usually integrated on the motherboard and consist of a resistor- capacitor combination with a certain time constant. This ensures that the capacitor is charged to the desired supply voltage after power-on and charging time.

The PoR circuit ensures that the microprocessors of computers are supplied with the same supply voltage after switching on or when restarting and therefore no problems arise during startup.
