power matters alliance (wireless power) (PMA)
The Power Matters Alliance(PMA) is a non-profit organization of industry leaders. Under the name PMA Standard, the PMA Alliance is developing a technology for wireless power transmission with which battery-powered mobile devices can be charged without a charger. The frequencies used for this are between 277 kHz and 357 kHz.
The Power Matters Alliance (PMA) was founded in 2012, and member companies come from telecommunications, consumer electronics, automotive technology, retail and other businesses.
The PMA Alliance's technical approach is similar to that of the Wireless Power Consortium(WPC) and, like them, relies on magnetic induction( MI). The PMA Alliance develops an open PMA standard and certifies globally interchangeable products with a specified energy efficiency. The PMA solution uses a different protocol than the Qi standard and is incompatible with it as well as with the Alliance for Wireless Power( A4WP) concept.
In spreading the PMA standard, the PMA Alliance is relying on partnerships of restaurants and hotels, on the equipment of meeting tables that will be equipped with wireless power.
In 2015, the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) and the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) merged. The new alliance is called AirFuel Alliance.
