Energy saving systems(ECS) control the power required by the processors via various parameters such as the operating voltage and the clock frequency.

The prerequisite for all energy-saving techniques is that they involve special processors whose parameters can be controlled, so-called Power Managed Components (PMC). The PMC processors can be controlled by software, and their operating points can be set depending on the various parameters, predictions and estimates.
