polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

Polyvinyl chloride(PVC) is a medium-hard thermoplastic insulation material used in connectors and cables as a dielectric and for the outer sheathing, and also for empty conduits and plastic cards. The material polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is specified in ISO 1043 and carries the DIN/VDE designation"Y".

Properties of cable sheathing materials

Polyvinyl chloride is flame retardant( FR), but not halogen-free. In case of fire, toxic and corrosive fire gases are generated. The material can be used at temperatures between -40°C and +110°C. It is combustible and not halogen-free. UV, chemical and oil resistance are good, as is abrasion resistance. Polyvinyl chloride cable can be used as outdoor cables with moving applications. Relative permittivity ranges from 3 to 8 at 50 Hz, and dielectric strength is 40 kV/mm. The loss factor is 55 in the microwave range at 3 GHz.
