polyamide (PA)

Polyamide(PA) is an insulating material for cables with the DIN/VDE designation 4Y. Another field of application for polyamides are filaments for 3D printers.

Known trade names for polyamides are nylon, Perlon and Dederon. In general, polyamides are halogen-free and can be used in the temperature range between -40°C and +90°C. UV and oil resistance are good, as is abrasion resistance. The permittivity is between 3.5 and 4.0 at 50 Hz and the dielectric strength is 50 kV/mm.

Polyamide films are also used as a substrate for thin-film solar cells onto which copper indium diselenide( CIS), copper indium gallium selenide( CIGS) or other element compounds are vapor-deposited.
