Analog pointer instruments are used in electrical measurement technology for measuringcurrent, voltage and resistance in switchable measuring ranges. They can be designed as single instruments, e.g. for monitoring measured values in measuring stations, or as multiple instruments for use in electrical measurement technology. The measured values are indicated by a pointer
on a scale display. The scale display is divided into scale divisions, with the scale divisions being calibrated for the unit of the measurand
. When determining the measurand, the measured value is read off the scale division and the numerical value read off is multiplied by the unit of the measurand. The longer the scale display and pointer, the more accurate the reading can be.parallax errors when reading the measured value, there are pointer instruments with mirror scales. Moving-coil, moving-solenoid, cross-coil, hot-wire
and moving-iron instruments are frequently used as movements.Analog pointer instruments have been largely replaced by digital displays today. However, they are still used wherever changes in measured values need to be observed.
