point to multipoint (P2MP)

In the point-to- multipoint connection, Point to Multipoint (P2MP, PTMP or PMP), also referred to as multipoint connection, a connection is established from one point to several end points.

This type of connection is becoming increasingly important in the access area, namely as a P2MP radio connection in WLL networks. Radio links in the microwave range, in the 2.6 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz frequency ranges, are used for transmission. In the 2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands, a total of 59 frequency channels with 14 MHz each are available; in the 26 GHz band, more than one hundred channels with 28 MHz or 2 x 28 MHz are available.

The links can be operated at transmission rates of over 8 Mbit/s unidirectional or 2 x 4 Mbit/s symmetrical. P2MP directional radio has its advantages, especially in rural areas.
