point of care (PoC)

In telemedicine, the point of care (PoC) is the location of treatment.

As electronic monitoring devices for monitoring vital functions such as blood pressure, pulse, electrocardiogram (ECG), respiratory rate, etc. become smaller and lighter, medical monitoring devices can be installed as medical wearables directly on the patient's body or in the patient's immediate environment. This means that the patient or his immediate environment is increasingly becoming the point of care.

The measurement data is transmitted by radio to a personal computer, which evaluates it and sends it to the doctor or a clinic via the Internet. These concepts are being implemented in Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), among others.
