plastic pin grid array (CPU socket) (PPGA)

The PPGA package (Plastic Pin Grid Array) is a plastic variant of the PGA package. Like this, it is used for 32- and 64-bit microprocessors with frequencies of over 200 MHz. The square PPGA package was developed for microprocessors with a high number of connections.

Unlike Ceramic Pin Grid Arrays (CPGA) or Tape Carrier Packages( TCP), PPGAs have greater thermal resistance, better power distribution and improved electrical characteristics. On the surface of the PPGA packages there is a square metallic area over which the heat is dissipated. Above all, the thermal properties improve the performance of the microprocessors. In addition, the microprocessor in the PPGA package is located on the side facing the motherboard.
