A pinout is a pin assignment diagram. It is the identification of the connections that must be made to a plug, socket, female connector, contact strip or connector to ensure proper operation.
It is the documentation for the contact assignment of the corresponding component. In addition to the contact numbers, it can include the designation of the contacts, the type of signals, the color codes of the conductors to be connected, their voltage levels and polarity, or other characteristic data.
For example, the pinout of a USB interface indicates the number of the contact pin, its color code and type of signals with the levels.
