ping of death (security) (PoD)
Ping of Death (PoD) was a flooding technique used in the past to send unacceptably long fragments ofICMP or IP packets.
As soon as the packet length exceeds 64 KB, the buffer memory overflows and impairs the function of the server. The attacked server tries to assemble and process the long fragments. This can lead to a crash. Since today's operating systems and computers are much more powerful than earlier ones, Ping of Death is a thing of the past.
