piezoelectric generator (PEG)
A piezoelectric generator is a transducer that converts mechanical vibrations into electrical signals.
The central component of a piezoelectric generator is a piezoceramic that is deformed by mechanical forces and generates an alternating voltage as a result. Such piezoelectric generators can produce voltages of several kilovolts if the piezoceramics are properly designed and strongly bent. However, the outputs are extremely low, amounting to only a few milliwatts. Piezo generator technology is used in micro energy harvesting, for example in gas lighters and gas igniters.
