phaser

In audio technology, certain effects are caused by delays and superpositions of audio signals with the same or other frequencies. With the phaser or all-pass filter, an audio signal is superimposed with the same, but time-delayed audio signal.

Unlike the flanger, which works similarly to a phaser, this one has a constant time delay. This means that lower frequencies have less phase shift than higher and higher frequencies. The phase shift therefore increases with frequency and in extreme cases can cause higher frequencies to cancel each other out. This happens when the phase shifts between two frequencies are 180° and the amplitudes are equal. A comb filter effect does not occur.

The effects of frequency-dependent superposition can be created with phasers. Special effects can be created by changing the delay time.
