phase jitter modulation (PJM)

Phase jitter modulation (PJM) is a phase modulation with extremely small phase changes used in RFID and described in ISO 18000.

In phase jitter modulation, the phase changes are less than +/- 1%, making the modulated PJM signal comparable to phase noise.

Phase jitter modulation is suitable for the identification of many RFID tags that are simultaneously in the receiving range of the RFID reader. This method can be used to perform over a thousand identifications per second. In addition, it has the advantage that it can also identify RFID tags that are located close to each other. This is why phase jitter modulation RFID systems are suitable for reading documents lying on top of each other, small parts that are transported on conveyor belts
