permanent threshold shift (audio) (PTS)

Permanent Threshold Shift(PTS) is a permanent shift in hearing threshold.

A shift in hearing threshold is considered hearing damage or hearing loss and is due to exposure of the hearing to high volume. Hearing is damaged by high sound pressure levels, such as those found primarily in discotheques.

In addition to Permanent Threshold Shift, there is also Temporary Threshold Shift. Temporary Threshold Shift( TTS), unlike Permanent Threshold Shift, is reversible and therefore does not cause permanent damage.
