park distance control (automotive) (PDC)

Inautomotive technology, there are various systems that monitor the vehicle's surroundings, the road ahead or the lanes. The parking assistant, Park Distance Control ( PDC), is a driver assistance system that monitors the immediate area in front of and behind the vehicle and alerts the driver to any obstacles with visual or acoustic signals.

The classic technology for parking assistance works with ultrasound, which is emitted via several transmitters housed in the bumpers. The reflected ultrasound is received by ultrasonic sensors, which are also housed in the bumpers. The distance to the obstacle is determined from the difference in propagation time. The closer the car gets to the obstacle, the more intense the acoustic and visual warnings.

In addition to the ultrasonic method, there are parking aids that work with several video cameras that monitor the front, side and rear areas.

Parking assistants can perform parking independently if the vehicle has electric power steering( EPS). To do this, they measure the parking space and assist the driver in turning the steering wheel. At the point of turn, the driver is informed acoustically and can park in a targeted manner and in one go using the new steering angle.
