An outlet identifies the end point of a cabling infrastructure. It is the connection point at which the user devices are connected to the network. Such a connection point can be a junction box or a TAE socket.

An outlet can either be installed directly on a wall as a socket or laid as a flexible cable within a room. To avoid reflections and interference on the cable, unused outlets should always be terminated by a terminating resistor. More convenient outlets are automatically terminated when not in use.
