outdoor unit (sat. com.) (ODU)
Outdoor units(ODU) are all components of a radio relay system or a satellite receiving facility that are located outside the building.
Outdoor units are located outside a building and consist of the directional antenna, usually a parabolic antenna or a pencil beam antenna, with the LNB converter. In the converter, the receive frequencies are separated in a polarization combiner and mixed with the local oscillator frequency( LOF). The lower sideband resulting from the mixing is fed to the Indoor Unit( IDU) as an intermediate frequency of 950 MHz and 2.150 GHz via a coaxial cable.
The receiving equipment of the ground segment, the Indoor Units (IDU), are located inside the building.
