outage management system (OMS)

An Outage Management System (OMS) is a computer system that detects power outages and interruptions in smart grids

and ensures that power is restored. OMS systems detect the fuses and disconnection circuits where the power interruption occurred, using geographical data from a Geographics Information System

(GIS). They provide power restoration and take into account emergency situations and interruption duration. OMS systems provide their information on the number of affected consumers to the Distribution Management System (DMS) and calculate the time required for restoration. In addition, consumers are informed about the power interruption and the probable interruption duration via the Customer Information System (CIS).
