optical time division multiplexing (OTDM)
Optical Time Division Multiplexing (OTDM) is comparable to electrical Time Division Multiplexing(TDM).
In the OTDM method, the bit streams of the signals to be transmitted are interleaved bit by bit and transmitted one after the other via an optical fiber. To increase the data rate, the individual data streams can be compressed at a data rate higher by the multiplex factor and then stretched again on the receiving side in an OTDM demultiplexer.
