optical supervisory channel (OSC)

The Optical Supervisory Channel (OSC) is an optional supervisory channel in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM). This channel carries additional supervisory functions for network management in DWDM overhead.

In the optical transport hierarchy, the OSC signal has its own wavelength and is introduced in the optical output amplifier. In addition to monitoring the optical transmission link, it is also used for management.
