optical internetworking forum (OIF)

The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) is concerned, among other things, with the continuity of services in optical networks.

To this end, the OIF has developed a specification for the UNI interface, User Network Interface (UNI), the OIF UNI Signalling 1.0 for signaling. A further step is with Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching( GMPLS), label switching in optical systems. OIF UNI Signalling allows, among other things, the activation of additional colors in an optical add/drop multiplexer for the purpose of dynamic bandwidth adjustment.

In addition, the OIF Forum has developed the specifications for Infiniband, which was established in 2005 with a Double Data Rate( DDR) of 5 Gbit/s.
