optical access technology

The optical access line (OPAL) is a project name for a passive optical network( PON). It involves several individual projects for the connection of the analog telephone network, the basic access and primary multiplex connection ofISDN, various broadband distribution services and a management system to optical access networks. The OPAL project was limited to several cities and was incorporated into Deutsche Telekom's program offerings after field trials were completed. Via OPAL, access network providers offer connection with fiber to the curb( FTTC) and fiber to the home( FTTH).
