open system/2 (IBM) (OS/2)
OS/2 is an operating system developed by IBM and Microsoft for personal computers with 32-bit microprocessor. OS/2 has a graphical interface, offers multitasking, it can work in networked environments as a multi- user system, as well as with application programs developed for Windows.
The first version of OS/2 was released in 1987 as a successor operating system to MS- DOS for the PS/2 personal computers of the time. With OS/2 the possibilities of Intel's 32-bit processors are realized without restrictions.
With OS/2, file operations can be performed by simply dragging and dropping with the computer mouse. In 1995, the significantly enhanced version OS/2 WARP was introduced. Since OS/2 competed with Windows, Microsoft dropped out of the project in the early 1990s. In 2005 OS/2 was discontinued, but it is still available in a further developed form under the product name eComStation.
