open base station architecture initiative (base station) (OBSAI)

Open Base Station Architecture Initiative (OBSAI) is an association of over 120 manufacturers of infrastructure equipment, modules and components for base stations, which is developing an open standard for base stations.

The architecture for base stations developed by OBSAI has a clearly defined, functionally structured structure based on three reference points. Thanks to this clear structure, the various modules of a base station can be developed independently of each other.

The three reference points( RP) are named RP1, RP2 and RP3. RP1 defines the interface for the internal control and management level for all function modules. RP2 defines the logical control interface between the transport and baseband building blocks and provides a clear functional division between the T and E transmission interfaces and many radio technologies such as Wideband Code Division Multiple Access(WCDMA), CDMA2000, EDGE and others. Reference point RP3 defines the high performance interface for the uplink and downlink.
