online video distributor (IPTV, OTT) (OVD)

The Federal Communications Commission(FCC) defines an OnlineVideo Distributor ( OVD) as an entity that transmits video content over the Internet or over another IP network, provided that the IP-based transmission path is operated by a person or entity other than the Online Video Distributor. An online video distributor (OVD) is also referred to as an OTT content provider, over-the-top (OTT), or aggregator. The more over-the-top is used, the more OVD distributors compete with pay-TV providers and other multichannel video programming distributors (MVPD).
