The OIR feature, Online Insertion and Removal (OIR), is also known as hot- swap. It is a device feature that allows system components, plug-in modules, and computer cards to be removed and replaced without powering off or shutting down the computer, system, or equipment. OIR operation thus increases the availability of the system.
