one's complement

The one's complement is the conversion of all ones to zeros and all zeros to ones in a dual number. If the foremost bit is a 1, then all other bits are negated, because if the first bit is a 0, the bit pattern is a magnitude number. The ones complement plays an important role in dual arithmetic, along with the two's complement, and thus enables subtraction.
