numerical processing unit (coprocessor) (NPU)
The task of coprocessors is to relieve the central processing unit( CPU) of computationally intensive operations and thus increase the computing speed. A Numerical Processing Unit (NPU) is such a coprocessor, which relieves the CPU of computationally intensive floating-point operations. In the early years of microprocessor technology, NPU units were independent computing units that were later integrated into microprocessors.
