non registered parameter number (MIDI) (NRPN)

The Non Registered Parameter Number (NRPN) is a Musical Instrument Digital Interface(MIDI) designation used to control electronic musical instruments.

The non-registered parameter numbers refer to manufacturer or instrument specific MIDI controllers and extend the range of available standard controllers. The NRPN data are transmitted with the MIDI protocol and are used, for example, with virtual instruments and are characterized by offering more remotely controllable functions than the instruments that offer Midi Continuous Controller (MIDI- CC).

The Non Registered Parameter Numbers are defined by the Most Significant Bit( MSB) and the Least Significant Bit( LSB).
