non geostationary satellite orbit (satellite comm.) (NGSO)

Non Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) is the term used to describe all non-geostationary satellites. These are asynchronous satellites that orbit the Earth in lower satellite orbits.

NGSO satellites include navigation satellites, whose circular orbits are at about 20,000 km; LEO satell ites, whose altitudes range from 700 km to 1,500 km; MEO satellites, whose orbits can range from 10,000 km to 30,000 km; and HEO satellites, whose elliptical orbits range from 500 km to 42,000 km. The only geostationary satellites are the GEO satellites, which are stationed at an altitude of about 36,000 km relative to the Earth.
