node loop port (NL_Port)

A port a logical device interface with the associated protocol. With Fibre Channel( FC), the FC ports have a special designation that expresses the functionality and is identified by an underscore.

The Node Loop port supports the Arbitrated Loop, FC-AL, with its functions and protocols. An NL_Port connects an Arbitrated Loop to other NL ports and FL_Ports, supports generation, detection and message flow to and from the connected system. NL_Ports are end ports in virtual point-to-point connections of a fabric. For example, the NL_Port to F_Port to N_Port uses an FC switch.
