network termination point (NTP)

The Netzwork Termination Point (NTP) is the network termination point or network endpoint. The Netzwork Termination Point is the interface between the public network and the Customer Premises.

The Cusomer Premises is the property or it is the business premises of the customer. The network termination point is where the transition between the public network and the customer premises takes place. This applies equally to wired networks and to optical networks.

Depending on the network constellation, the network termination point is connected to the network terminal equipment (NTE) via a copper cable or an optical fiber, which in turn is connected to the data terminal equipment such as telephones, fax machines or other data terminal devices.
