network management station (SNMP) (NMS)
Network Management System(NMS) is a general term for the software and hardware that performs network management. In Simple Network Management Protocol( SNMP), this functional unit is called Network Management Station (NMS).
The NMS station performs control and routing functions, collects and stores information from network management agents(NMAs) about network usage, generates reports and statistics, and provides alternate routes in the event of a route failure. Other network management station tasks include configuration changes and performance, event and fault monitoring. In the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), the term Network Management Station is used for the host on which the network management program runs. Since the NMS station itself is monitored, it is both server and client.
