Network Management System (NMS) is a general term for the software and hardware that performs network management. In the Simple Network Management Protocol
(SNMP), this functional unit is called Network Management Station (NMS).information from the Network Management Agents (NMA) about network usage, generates reports and statistics, and provides alternate routes in the event of a route failure. Other network management station tasks include configuration changes and performance, event, and fault monitoring. In the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), the term Network Management Station is used for the host on which the network management program runs. Since the NMS station itself is monitored, it is both a server and a client.
