Network configuration management (NCM) is about planning, organizing and managing networks. Since modern networks can consist of local networks, wide area networks, radio networks and virtual networks, NCM management is extremely complex and technically demanding.

All network components integrated in such a network must be monitored and administered by the network configuration management. The data of all components, their IP addresses and network addresses, their configuration, their program versions and updates must be read into databases.
