Nerd, in German: Sonderling, Langweiler, Fachidiot, or also Computer-Nerd describes people for whom computers and other IT topics are the focus of their lives.

Nerds are often rather social outsiders, spend an excessive amount of time with the computer and usually have an above-average intelligence quotient. The term nerd has changed in valuation over many years. Originally, it had a clearly negative connotation. In recent years, this has changed: The term nerd often has a positive connotation in Internet circles and describes, with a certain recognition, computer freaks and IT users with a high level of technical understanding.
