neodymium (Nd)

Neodymium is a chemical element that belongs to the rare earths and has the atomic number 60 in the periodic table.

Neodymium is used in various technical processes and devices. For example, in diode lasers, fiber lasers, fiber amplifiers and optical amplifiers. It is also a component of the C0G dielectric and is used in permanent magnets of loudspeakers because of its unique magnetic properties. Well known are neodymium tweeters.

In components for optical data transmission and light wave generation, neodymium is used in combination with silicate and phosphate glasses. The emission wavelengths are between 0.9 µm and 1.35 µm.
