national destination code (NDC)

The network code, National Destination Code (NDC), is used to identify national telecommunications networks. The National Destination Code identifies the numbering plan of a country in which the subscriber is registered.

The sequence of digits in the network code allows specific networks to be selected by means of the network code, services to be identified by means of the service code, and specific geographical areas to be assigned by means of the local network code.

The network code can be used to identify mobile networks or networks without geographical assignment. In Germany, the RegTP has defined network codes for the four operators T-Mobile, Vodafone, E-Plus and O2 Deutschland so that the networks of the various operators can be distinguished from one another.

Network codes are structured in accordance with ITU RecommendationE.164.
