music on demand (MoD)

Music on demand (MoD) is a streaming service in which the user can retrieve a desired track from an audio server via the Internet. The music tracks are available for download from the corresponding websites in compressed form, often in MP3 file format.

To get an impression of the piece of music or the artist, some streaming services offer the possibility for the interested party to download a few seconds for free.

Music-on-demand services is a form of streaming audio. Corresponding services can be offered free of charge and financed by inserted advertising, but they can also be paid or only usable by subscription. There are also on-demand services that limit the number of music tracks that can be played or downloaded. The music-on-demand pieces are stored in a database on the audio server and can be viewed, selected and ordered by the interested party.

Music-on-demand services with tens of millions of music tracks include Spotify, Deezer, Juke, Xbox Music, Napster and Apple Music, with others provided by broadcasters and Deutsche Telekom.
