In order to be able to select the desired service from an extensive range of multimedia services for in-vehicle infotainment( IVI), all multimedia services are made available on one interface, the multimedia interface (MMI). Multimedia interfaces are used in the home and in automotive technology, where they support infotainment.

In automotive technology, there is a comprehensive range of infotainment services that can be used in different ways by the driver and passengers. Services offered in this environment include entertainment services - radio, television, CD or DVD player- , information services - navigation, traffic information, Internet - , communication services - telephone, e-mail, Bluetooth - and control services - vehicle functions, driver information. These and other services can be selected via the Multimedia Interface and routed to the appropriate amplifiers and displays.
