multicast OSPF (Routing) (MOSPF)

MulticastOSPF (MOSPF) is the multicast version of Open Shortest Path First ( OSPF). This standard was specified in version 2 of OSPF.

Routers use the MOSPF to build a multicast topology of the network via the link-state algorithm( LSA). Routers with implemented MOSPF also support the normal Open Shortest Path First (OSPF).

The OSPF protocol builds directly on the IP protocol and is an evolution of an early version of the Intermediate System to Intermediate System Protocol( IS-IS). It is characterized by hierarchical structuring, the use of a link-state algorithm, the bridging of larger distances with more than 14 hops, and flexible metrics.

Multicast Open Shortest Path First (MOSPF) is a specification of the Internet Engineering Task Force and is covered in RFC 1584.
