modular multilevel converter (power electric) (MMC)

Modular Multilevel Converters(MMC) are inverters used in HVDC technologyas HVDC converters that generate three-phase current from high voltage.

To handle and control the high voltages of high voltage DC transmission, MMC converters consist of several hundred modules connected in series, each connected to the positive or negative DC voltage and one phase of the three-phase current. Each submodule has its own IGBT phase and can be switched independently of the others. This allows the AC voltage generated to be switched at as many levels as there are submodules. With a few hundred, a nearly perfect sinusoidal shape can thus be generated.
