In product classification, a distinction is made between commercial off-the-shelf
(COTS) products and modified off-the-shelf (MOTS) products.
ProductsMOTS products are typically off-the-shelf software whose source code
can be modified. The product modification can be done by the customer, the manufacturer or a service partner and takes into account customer-specific requirements. MOTS software is therefore adapted to the customer's needs. If the MOTS products are developed by an independent service agency, then the user often does not have access to the developments.
