Mobile number portability allows the user to retain his or her mobile number even when changing mobile network operator. This is called mobile number portability (MNP). The user also retains the network code of the network operator. The caller can no longer deduce the network operator from the area code, nor can he draw any conclusions as to whether the called party is registered with the same or a different mobile network operator.
