message transfer agent entity (MTAE)

A Message Transfer Agent Entity (MTAE) is a logical instance of an MHS system, according to X.400. The MTAE instance resides in a Message Transfer Agent( MTA) and is responsible for controlling the Message Transfer Layer( MTL). The MTAE controls the protocol functionality with other instances and communicates with them via the P protocol P1.
