media interface adapter (MIA)

A MediaInterfaceAdapter (MIA) is a media converter that converts copper-based FC transmission media to optical fiber. One side of the media converter has the DB-9 Sub-D connector for the copper lines, the other a duplex SC connector

for the optical fibers. The MIA media converter is supplied via the Sub-D connector.

It can be used to extend the copper-based transmission links to more than 30 m. With a media interface adapter, host bus adapters (HBA) with copper connection can be converted to multimode fiber.
