10 gigabit media independent interface (10GbE) (XGMII)

XGMII (10 GigabitMedia Independent Interface) is the interface between the MAC layer and the physical layer in 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

XGMII connects ports with each other and with other electronic modules in full duplex. The signal transmitted via XGMII consists of 32 receive signals and transmit signals as well as two control signals. XGMII, which is mainly used at board level, can bridge a maximum physical length of only 7 cm. An extension is made via the XAUI.
